What is Executive Coaching?
There are many interpretations as to the nature and purpose of executive coaching.

We propose a working hypothesis defining the characteristics of a coaching assignment that may be viewed as executive.

• It is expected to deliver improved performance

• The expected outcomes include better decisions, changed behaviour, and improved leadership

• The coaching is for a period and is time bounded

• The organization and the person being coached are both clients

• The coaching recognizes the specific context and role in which the individual works

The attached document summarizes the main approaches to coaching and how these lead to our working hypothesis. It also outlines some of the how various authors have grouped and categorized the various requirements for coaching and how coaching for an executive agenda has emerged as a distinct area of practice.
